The situation

In early 2025, one of our clients – a digital-first children’s product brand – identified a safety issue with one of their toys. A small part posed a potential choking hazard, requiring urgent recall action across multiple European countries.

As their Authorised Representative (AR) under the General Product Safety Regulation (EU) 2023/988, 24hour-AR immediately stepped in to coordinate the product recall in close cooperation with the relevant Market Surveillance Authority (MSA) in Ireland.

Our role in the product recall process

When a safety issue arises, your Authorised Representative becomes your operational anchor within the EU. In this case, we:

  • Acted as the primary liaison between the manufacturer and the Irish MSA
  • Collected and submitted all required technical documentation, including the risk assessment and recall notification forms
  • Coordinated the creation and publication of the product recall notice on the manufacturer’s EU website
  • Supported GDPR-compliant communication with end users and authorities
  • Ensured the case was accepted and published on the EU Safety Gate portal

Results

Thanks to swift action and clear communication, the product recall was successfully completed:

  • All affected products in the Republic of Ireland were identified and traced
  • 100% of customers were notified via direct communication
  • Authorities in both the EU and UK were informed in a timely manner
  • A permanent product recall notice was posted on the client’s website, fulfilling transparency requirements
